5/31/2005 08:37:00 PM|W|P|Melissa|W|P|This was a jam-packed weekend. First, the parental units were in town. We had a good time...luckily, my parents don't need a lot of babysitting and event planning...they are happy just hanging with their girls. My dad helped me with some more planting, and speaking of planting, my handy husband just finished a second large planter for one of our rooftop decks. Check it out.
I replanted an aphid-infested honeysuckle in it with the intention of saving its life, and I also planted some scarlet runner beans and crimson climber seeds. Let's see what they do...
I also did the annual "Bike the Drive," which was a total blast but I am such a neophyte retard biker. I rode with a friend from work who is a hard-core cyclist. The first fuck up was when I missed my water bottle holder on my bike, and my water bottle careened down Lake Shore Drive. A nice person picked it up, but a mean person yelled at me for stopping (I can't stand athletes with attitude). Anyway, second fuck up was when I decided to take some pictures while biking. I missed my fanny pack when trying to put away the camera at one point. The camera flew onto to LSD! Luckily a very nice man behind me picked up all the pieces (incl. battery, memory card, and shutter which fell off). I managed to re-insert the battery and memory card, and the camera worked fine, but the shutter is busted. Anyway, I was very embarrassed to say the least, but I finished the 30 mile course and if felt great!! Now I just need to work on my swimming!

Self-portrait - yes, they do make helmets that fit my huge heed!
Not much in the way of knitting progress (again). I'm constantly working on baby stuff for friends, so all of my progress is very small. Behold, a flower washcloth I made for my expecting friend Kristen.
That's about it for now!|W|P|111759097305202950|W|P|Fun with Bike and Dirt|W|P|5/23/2005 10:22:00 AM|W|P|Melissa|W|P|As if we needed any more, 2 new reasons to loathe the current administration. No long-winded political commentary here... all I can say is WTF?
It's been a busy weekend and Monday at Chez Melissa...lots of family rolling in and out the next few days. I did manage to get in my first long bike ride yesterday - about 30 miles to the North Branch Forest Preserve Trail. Had a great ride - and I can see myself become a bike nerd (biking gloves anyone?). Other appearances this weekend: Adobo Grill Wicker Park (yum guacamole), Four (cheezy), and Hot Chocolate (yum everything).
Not much progress made in the knitting department, due to the beautiful weather we had this weekend. I need to finish up the baby uggs and another little project by Thursday. So I'll post pics soon!

It is the most retarded of reality TV shows I have ever watched. A celebrity is teamed up with professional ballroom dancer, and they compete against other celeb-dancer pairs. It's ri-god-damn-diculous!|W|P|111629918324277914|W|P|Dancing with the Stars|W|P|5/15/2005 08:30:00 PM|W|P|Melissa|W|P|Weekend Check List:

Plastic pots are not my favorite - but they are cheap. Lugging bags of soil up 3 flights of stairs is enough work.

We got lots done this weekend. I even got in a 5-mile run on Saturday, and took my bike in to Rapid Transit for an overhaul for my tri training. It's going to cost a lot more than I thought, but I guess it has to be done, right? I also finished Good Grief, by Lolly Winston. Generally, this book was more of the chick-lit/destined-to-be-made-into-a-Julia Roberts-movie that I typically stay away from. But I must admit I couldn't put it down! So, I decided that I do need a chick-litish book now and then, sort of like I need a chick flick when Doug is traveling for work.|W|P|111618946660031080|W|P|Tomatoes, Peppers, and Uggs|W|P|5/11/2005 08:33:00 PM|W|P|Melissa|W|P|So the saying goes about Chicago weather. The past few weeks such has been true. Example - yesterday the high was in the low-eighties. Today, it did not get above 50 at the lakefront! I'm getting really excited about starting to train for my triathlon, but this weather just needs to stop! I found some adult swim classes at the local Y that I will take in June, and this weekend I'm hoping to get my bike fixed up.
I have added yet another baby project to my knitting que. I'm going to knit the baby pants from Last Minute Knitted Gifts (do ya think I like this book or what?). I got the Rowan Denim yarn on ebay for tres cheap, and it arrived the other day. So, that's one baby blanket, baby ugg booties, and baby pants in the works. Hoping all turn out cute and wearable!|W|P|111586277906991921|W|P|Wait 5 Minutes...|W|P|5/09/2005 08:34:00 PM|W|P|Melissa|W|P|This weekend was spent in St. Louis...taking in a Cardinals game, getting to see my brother, and celebrating Mother's Day with mom.
First, some finished projects:
Child's Hat from Last Minute Knitted Gifts
Yarn: Some Cheap TLC acrylic
This is a gift for a family friend's 3-year old, Mia Louise. Here she is with her "Auntie Claire" having fun at her birthday party this weekend. Dumb-ass here forgot to bring the hat home, so I'm hoping it fits. The party theme was "pink," so I know the color is ok!
I also finished another pair of baby booties. My mom asked me to make these for our friend Susie's baby shower this weekend...so many babies!!
Yarn: Lorna's Laces Lamb
My brother Nick is back from Chile, so it was good to catch up. I think he's realizing that his "Che"-like mustachio and beard aren't working with the ladies in the states, however.
And of course, the cutest pup in the world:

Overall it was a fantastic show as per usual, once we got in the door. Doors were supposed to open at 7, band starting at 8...but it was more like doors open at 8, band starts at 9. Probably due to the fact that the shows are being taped for a live DVD. The set was a good mix of current and YHF, with plenty of earlier stuff mixed in. They ended up playing for over 2.5 hours, including 4 encores, which was unexpected. Love love love the Vic for live shows - every spot is great.
I have one question, however - why the hell do people go see live shows if all they are going to do is talk to each other while the band is playing? It drives me nuts...last night a bunch of girls were standing in front of us, dancing like they were at a Dead show or something, and sreaming at each other during the songs. Girls, they just played "I Am the Man Who Loves You," now you can leave - please!!
Things have been busy this week - our place is kind of a wreck now do to reorganization of our office. Not much training or knitting has been done this week - but I'm not really sure why. I'm off to St. Louis tomorrow for Mother's Day, so I'm hoping to get a good run in while I'm home, and finish up the baby booties requested by my mom. Hoping to take in a Cardinals game tomorrow night with my brother (aka the Grecian Gringo - check it out, a must read), who has just returned from Chile.
Enjoy your weekend!|W|P|111531621372531565|W|P|Wilco Review|W|P|5/01/2005 10:41:00 AM|W|P|Melissa|W|P|No particular reason for the post title, other than the fact that I just heard that song on the radio and can't get it out of my head. Time to get Revolver on iTunes I guess. Oh, I'm hurting this morning. What was supposed to be a tame night, i.e., home by midnight so I can drag my ass to pilates class Sunday morning, turned out to be just the opposite. A combination of too many types of beverages, not enough for dinner, and you know the rest. Needless to say, no pilates for me! It doesn't help that Rachel Ray is screaming on TV in the other room...must....change....channel. I find her truly irritating.
Well, it's official. Today I registered for the Tri-America Sprint Triathlon on August 21. It's a week before the big Accenture Triathlon in Chicago, so I'm hoping it will be a small-ish event that will be better for a first-timer like me. I'm going to follow the beginner's 10-week training program from trinewbies.com - it looks pretty doable. Hopefully.
In knitting news...my mom has commissioned me to make a few baby gifts for some upcoming showers she is attending. I started on another pair of baby booties in Lorna's Laces Lamb yarn, and the other gift is going to be the baby drawstring pants from "Last Minute Knitted Gifts." I ordered the yarn off ebay yesterday for super-cheap!
I'm sorry, I know I'm evil, but this bride had crazy in her eyes...
I'm off to the couch to veg - enjoy your Sunday!|W|P|111496371122261853|W|P|And Your Bird Can Sing|W|P|
